Tracking changes to a sponsored article after publication
Record and approve changes to a live sponsored article, then verify the article and affected promotions.
Keep the previous version of a published sponsored article. Record what changed, why, when and who approved it. Recheck promotions that still point to it, because a body edit can leave an approved headline or ad card inaccurate even when the URL is unchanged.
Start with the request
Give each request an identifier. Record the affected URL, current version, proposed passage, reason, supporting material, requester and time received. Route it by problem type:
- Factual correction:Check the disputed statement and any related headline, caption or teaser.
- Offer or product update:Check the condition, availability statement or next step wherever readers encounter it.
- Presentation change:Review the rendered page if the template, sponsorship cue, image or crop changes.
- Optional improvement:Schedule a preference about wording without delaying a material correction.
The categories route work; they do not establish a request's validity. Keep the evidence and decision together.
Check every affected item
Compare the proposed wording with its support and the impression left by the whole page. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission accepts reports about possible misleading or false claims, can require businesses to back up claims they make about their products or services, and may investigate misleading conduct. If evidence supports only a narrower statement, narrow the article and any promotion carrying the broader claim. If support is missing, hold or remove the affected claim while it is resolved.
List dependent items: article title, opening, image, caption, call to action, publisher card, distributor creative, email copy and linked offer page where relevant. Name who controls each. If a publisher can correct the article before a distributor replaces its creative, record the gap and consider pausing the old promotion where campaign controls permit.
Release and verify a version
Before release, record the old and proposed wording, evidence, approval owner and intended time. Preserve the earlier version under applicable record-retention rules. Seek approval for the changed material under the agreed process; launch approval does not automatically cover a new claim.
After release, check the exact live URL on a phone and a wider screen. Confirm the changed passage, visible sponsorship treatment, destination and corrected promotional items. Record the observation time and version. For a material correction, follow the publisher's policy on whether and how readers should be told.
Close the request only when affected surfaces are verified or clearly marked pending. The log should show which wording was live during each known period and which promotions led to it.
